Finding A Doctor

Written by Wellness Matters

life_finddoctorChoose your family doctor carefully – someone you like and someone who understands you. So, how do you find him or her?

  • First, ask for referrals. Your family and friends probably have doctors they rely on and trust that they could recommend. Also, you can often find a list of available physicians from your local hospital.
  • Second, examine your personal preferences. Do you prefer a male or a female doctor? Someone who is younger or older than you are?
  • Fourth, make an appointment to meet and interview the doctor with a medical concern in mind. Can you be honest about your concerns, or are you embarrassed and uncomfortable? Does the doctor share your ideas about wellness? Does he/she really listen or do you feel rushed?

Consider meeting with a couple of doctors before you decide. By asking good questions and taking your time, you will eventually find a doctor whom you can trust and who will contribute to your well being.
