Winter With a Hint of Nostalgia

Written by Tilly Komarnicki

nostalgiaMost of this season’s stylish trends can transform your wardrobe basics into great holiday fashions

  • One way is by adding key accents such as the brooch, cape or stole.
  • Ponchos continue as a fashion item in a variety of colors and knits. They are versatile, fun and flatter any figure. If a poncho isn’t for you try a cape or capelet. Fur stoles, real and faux, take us back in time.
  • The holiday season gives us the opportunity to sparkle in a stole or fur caplet with that little black dress. Try a rhinestone brooch in your updo for added drama (remember to secure it with hairpins and not just the brooch pin).
  • Tweed is everywhere. The tweed Chanel-style blazer is classic and beautiful, a flashback to Jackie O. Tweed handbags, hats, jackets and skirts can be teamed up with your basic wardrobe pieces. Fringes and  tassles are adorning hemlines, collars and cuffs create the look of the season. Winter coats and jackets make an impression this winter with faux and real fur accents. These jackets are fun yet classic.
  • Accessories are key this season. Bits of fur appear on collars, cuffs and gloves. Gloves are a must, choose from a wide variety of looks-fur trim, rhinstones, ribbons and animal print accents. Floral or gemstone brooches, chandelier earrings and pearls are showcased this season. Pearls are accented with a stain ribbon for a spectacular, rich look.
  • The kitty heel shoe is the new flat, it’s classic yet practical. Boots are big and accented with buckles, laces, textures, zippers and interesting stitching.

Tilly’s one tip wonder: Update any outfit in your closet this season by adding a large, colorful rhinestone brooch. You can wear your brooch on your jacket, scarf/wrap, fur stole, hat and  even your handbag.
