My husband is controlling and possessive

possessivecontrolMy husband is very controlling and possessive. He believes in a marriage until death do you part, and says if I ever want to leave him he’ll shoot me before I’m out the front door. He has hit me in the past and I’m not allowed to do a lot of things either. We have two kids and been married 12 years. I’m real scared of him and would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Advice: Is he in the Marines? Police force? I suggest that you first go to a support group of AAA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) and find out why you have been in this relationship for 12 years. AAA let others tell them who they are and what they can do. What do you do during the day when he is at work? Where are your parents?

I’m curious about what kind of advice your family gives you. The worst thing for you to do is to keep this a secret. Do you go to work? Can you support yourself? Does he drink? Is this associated with alcoholic behavior? Are you allowed to go to church? What kind of town do you live in? Is it large? What kind of churches are there is this town? What other kinds of behaviors does he have?
