To Jamie and Jessikatyr, on “How does controlling our thoughts result in controlling our destiny?” I’m now reading a book (written in 1961) called “Your Thoughts Can Change Your Life” in which Donald Curtis tells of how he went from sickness to health, and to being an inspiration to others. He became a mentor and a pastor, all through restorative thought processes. I believe he would agree with the statement by R. Sharma that Jessikatyr quoted.
To Edgar Paredes,Thank you for those words in that translation from the monastery. I hope you don’t mind if I copy that document describing success, so I can read it often, and even send it to friends.
It seems to me that God, who knows what encouragement we need, will help each one of us to “just stumble onto what we need at the moment”. Let’s praise HIM often for that!

  • Jamie Jamie says:

What do you think R. Sharma means by that Jessikatyr? How does controlling our thoughts result in controlling our destiny?

  • Jessikatyr says:

I truly love good quotes, there are so many wise men to take lessons from.

My favorite is: “All success in life, whether material or spiritual, starts with the thoughts that you put into your mind every second of every minute of every day. Your outer world reflects the state of your inner world. By controlling the thoughts that you think and the way you respond to the events of your life, you begin to control your destiny (R. Sharma).”

  • The Secrets to Success

The following document describing success was found in an abandoned monastery, located in the mountains of Mexico, and has been translated into English.

The true secrets to success are not degrees from universities, association with the wealthy, applause from others, or wise business opportunities. The true, everlasting secrets to success are sorrows, disappointments, tears, frustration, and failure. With out these hurtful experiences , no man can honestly know himself, recognize his courage, or respect others. The pillars that support a man’s character, stabilize his spirit, and strengthens his determination develop from adversities and heartache. Without enemies, how can a man cherish his friends? If a man’s dreams are not obtained then how can he understand risk, or face suffering? All men have within them a talent that, when found, creates a boldness that attracts and encourages all, but to find that gift from God, a man must explore, touch the fires of doubt, and sip from the cup of pity. He must build on sand, be foolish, and scar the soul with pride. Then, when all is lost, all is found through a tried consciousness that has grown weary. It is at this point that a man silently reaches out, touches the fingers of hope, and acknowledges that his mansion of success is built on single block of stone carved with compassion and cut from quarries only God blesses with power and love.

This website has taught me, so much about life.

Merry Christmas to everyone and your families.

    Edgar Paredes
