When Parents Feel Helpless
The term "helicopter parent" describes the sort of parents who always must be intimately involved in the development of their children. This kind of parent seeks to prevent any harm from coming to them by hovering nearby, ready to swoop in at a moment's notice to prevent any failure from befalling their kids.
But what happens when parents discover...... >Read More

Accounts of Autism
One of my favorite books is “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Mark Haddon. The book follows the intricate and, to me, sometimes seemingly irrational thoughts and actions of the main character as he solves a mystery.
While reading the book I became quickly aware that while it did not implicitly say so, it was implied...... >Read More

Condoms for Kids
Would you want a school nurse to give condoms to your 6 year old? Starting in September, students in Provincetown, Massachusetts will have access to condoms at school. Several other programs exist nationwide but so far this Provincetown’s board is the only one to grant access to students in grades 1 -12.

Freedom, More or Less
I was intrigued this morning by an article from O, the Oprah Magazine which asked “Bikini or headscarf -- which offers more freedom?” I was raised in England and Canada and my western brain immediately answered “not the head scarf”. But as I read through the article – one woman’s account of her daughter’s choice to cover up... >Read More

I wasn't forced to play sports as a kid. My dad played hockey throughout his young life, up to and including high school. However, not wanting to force me and my brother to follow in his footsteps, he didn't sign us up to... >Read More

Dads, Princesses and the Power of Woo
"Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous? Actually, who are you not to be?" - Marianne Williamson
I am standing in a crush of three-year-old pint-sized princesses. Surrounded by sparkling tiaras and frilly dresses, these little daubs of pink and purple are up way past their collective bed time. We giggle. We dance. We...... >Read More

Was Jesus born on December 25th?
It is doubtful that Jesus was truly born on December 25th. Some early church fathers believed it to have been December 25th, but the Bible does not say when Jesus was born. The Bible does not even really tell us what season he was born. The early church declared December 25th to be Jesus' birthday in order to replace... >Read More
