Creative Ideas for Affordable Summer Dates

Written by Gary Foreman

So you want to spend some quality time or simply have some fun without spending a fortune? Summer is a great time to get creative with your date:

1. Rediscover your childhood. Fly a kite, play in a school playground, or buy your date their favorite childhood candy, share some of your childhood memories to get to know each other better.

2. Go to a museum. You’ll be amazed how much fun you’ll have laughing at the intriguing works of contemporary “abstract” art or discussing classic art.

3. Listen to live music or a poetry reading or lecture at a book store. Big book stores with latte bars often have live bands on weekend evenings and lecturers at various other times.

4. Attend local musical or drama events. So it’s not Broadway, but it’s entertaining and affordable and the admission goes to a good cause.

5. Swing is back in! Take a break from the techno-pop dance club scene and go for a serial date by taking dance lessons together at a community center. If you want to try something different, try ballroom dancing!

6. Rediscover Scrabble or Chess. Pick up some other board games at the local thrift store. If you’re tired of regular Scrabble get really creative and try the nonsense version. Each turn you make up a words using whatever letters you’ve got but before you put it on the board you have to pronounce it, define it and use it in a sentence.

7. Go play outside. Go for a hike, toss a frisbee, walk in the park, go rollerblading, biking, canoeing, or swimming at an outdoor pool, play some beach volleyball, walk along the shore, look for seashells, play in the sand or even better, make sand castles

The ideas were compiled from the reader’s tips at the Dollar Stretcher where you will find hundreds of free articles to help you stretch your day and your dollar.
