Choose Faithfulness: Whole-Hearted Commitment

Written by admin

Our commitments shape our lives. We have all seen the legacy of broken commitments, ranging from disappointment over a missed appointment or a broken warranty to the devastation of a broken home. Is faithfulness even realistic today? Can we depend on God to be faithful to us? Can He depend on us to be faithful to Him? Reflect on the vital necessity of faithfulness through this study.

What is faithfulness?
Is it something our society values highly? Why or why not?
What are the greatest obstacles to faithfulness?
Should there be limits to faithfulness?

Many people believe unhappiness in a commitment is enough of a reason to withdraw from that commitment. Do you agree or disagree with that outlook? Why?

Have you ever taken the time to think about the wonder of God’s eternal faithfulness towards you? One of the most amazing images we find of Christ’s faithfulness to His Church is found in Ephesians 5:22-33. This passage follows an exhortation to be filled with the Spirit and serve one another out of reverence for Christ, and it therefore reiterates the two conditions of fruit-bearing we have seen throughout these studies: abiding and serving in love.

Read the passage slowly several times. If there are words you do not understand, look them up in a dictionary. We will be looking especially at the description of Christ as a bridegroom and husband to the Church.

5. How long will this marriage relationship between the Church and Christ last? How long does Christ commit Himself to her for? More thoughts...

7. Is it a marriage if only one of the couple say 'I do'? Why must both say 'I do' for it to be legitimate? Is the Church then all those who have said: 'I do!' to Christ?
