Construction Zone: God at Work (Philippians 1:1-11)

Written by truthmedia

Philippians 1:1-11.

Have you ever watched over the course of months as a new building went up? Someone had to lay out the plans, consider the cost, gather all needed workmen and materials, and then work with others to build the new structure.

God is at work in the lives of His children. Can you look at your life, and the lives of those around you, and say “God is at work”? Let’s consider together the truth that God is at work in lives as we look together at the opening verses of Philippians 1.

1. The book of Philippians is a letter. Who is it written to? Who is with Paul as he writes this letter?
2. What do you know of the circumstances surrounding the letter? Where is Paul as he writes it?
3. What is his relationship with the believers at Philippi? How did he know them? What hints do you find in chapter one of the type of relationship Paul had with them?
4. Have you ever had someone who prayed for you often? Are there people in your life that you pray for on a regular basis? If so, are there certain requests for which you pray?
5. Paul states that he is confident of something in verse 6. What is he confident of?
6. How can you cooperate with God's good work in your life? Are there ways in which you can hinder His work?
7. Can you have the same confidence that Paul had regarding God's work in your life and in the lives of those around you? If not, why not? If so, how can you communicate that to others?
8. What can you learn about praying for other believers from Paul's prayer in Phil 1:9-11?
9. What additional thoughts or questions do you have on this study?
