Hope Renewed (Ruth 3)

Written by admin

Over the past several sessions, we have been watching as Ruth and Naomi faced major loss and the move back to Bethlehem. At this point in this true story, Ruth and Boaz are each presented with decisions regarding the future. This study will help you find a renewed hope.

1. What instruction does Naomi give Ruth as we enter chapter 3?
2. How does Ruth respond?
3. Ruth is requesting that Boaz act as her kinsman-redeemer. What does this mean? (See Deut. 25:5-10)
4. Boaz commends Ruth for the way she has acted and tells her there is a closer relative with whom he must confer. If that relative does not fulfill the responsibility of the kinsman, Boaz assures Ruth he will do so. How do you think Ruth felt while she waited?
5. How do you handle the waiting times?
6. There is a much more hopeful tone in this chapter than there was early in this story. What is the basis or foundation for this hope?
7. What is the basis of your hope today? More thoughts...
You may wish to consider the following Scriptures: Lamentations 3:21-24; Jeremiah 29:11; Psalm 42:5, 11. What other references can you find to “hope”?
8. Ruth learned from Naomi and others as she adjusted to the transitions in her life. Can you share a lesson you are learning from others in recent weeks or months? More thoughts...
Are there any lessons we can learn about the benefits of intergenerational friendships from the relationship of Ruth and Naomi?
9. What additional thoughts or questions do you have on this study?
