The Gifts of Christmas: Faith

Written by admin
When you look at a new baby in the arms of a loving mother, you see a child that has faith its mother will provide for all it needs even though an infant can’t express those needs in words. It is a simple faith, one that can rest in the care provided. Take time today to look at that kind of all-dependent, totally trusting faith in the key members of the Christmas story.

1. What does the word "faith" mean to you today?
2. What did the angel say to Mary and how did she react when he visited her at her home in Nazareth? (Luke 1:26-38) More thoughts...
What difficulties would Mary face as a result of what the angel had told her would happen? What do you think helped her to respond in the way in which she did?
3. What differences do you see in the way Mary reacted to the angel's visit to the way Zechariah reacted when John's birth was foretold? More thoughts...
See Luke 1:8-22 for the story of Zechariah.
4. How can we tell that Mary did not waver in her faith?
5. How did Joseph show that he had faith in what the angel told him? (Matthew 1:19-25) More thoughts...
What challenges might Joseph have faced?
6. How did Elizabeth act in faith when Mary went to visit her? (Luke 1:41-45)
7. Just think of how encouraging Elizabeth's words must have been to Mary. How did Mary respond? (Luke 1:46-55) More thoughts...
Has a friend's faith in God ever been an encouragement to you? If so, how?
8. How does remembering what God has done in the past encourage our faith today? More thoughts...
Many have found it helpful to journal what God has done and what He has taught them. These journals can be a source of encouragement when faced with future difficulty.
9. What does placing our faith in the Christ child achieve for us today? More thoughts...
See Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:21; Romans 5:1
10. What additional thoughts or questions do you have about this study? Are there areas for which you'd like prayer?
