Watch “The Other Six Days” video!

Wearing a mask hides who you are. Symbolically, “wearing masks” also refers to ways that people try to hide who they really are. Try this study, based on the short film “The Other Six Days” to further explore how hiding our true selves can impact how others see us (and how we see ourselves):

1. What did you think of Iggy while he was working at the seniors' home? More thoughts...
Would you say he was "wearing a mask"? Which Iggy do you think was the "real" one?
2. What does it mean to "wear a mask"? More thoughts...
Was Iggy wearing a mask? If so, what mask?
3. Why would someone wear a mask? More thoughts...
Try to think about some reasons why a person might keep certain things hidden behind the veil of a persona.
4. Do you think some people wearing masks have become unaware they have a mask on? More thoughts...
How could someone not realize they are wearing a mask? Sometimes people are better at observing others than they are at recognizing themselves.
5. Do you think it’s more important to work hard to show others that you’re a “good person”, or try to be authentic with others even if it reveals that you’re really not? More thoughts...
Where do “masks” come into play with any part of this question?
6. Do you think you act differently during the week (at work or school) than you do after-hours with your friends? How so?
7. How would you go about taking off your mask(s)? What role could community play in helping you to do this? More thoughts...
What is the result of living with no masks? How does this affect your relationship with others?
8. Does removing masks bring freedom, truth, and authenticity, or does it bring rejection and pain? More thoughts...
Could it bring both good & bad? If so, is it still worth doing?
9. What additional thoughts or questions do you have on this study?
