A few years ago, I had a miscarriage. Since then, we’ve been blessed with a little girl and we enjoy her very much. But something happened inside of me during those days that followed the miscarriage. My husband was so flippant about the whole thing and didn’t provide the comfort or understanding I needed. I don’t really trust him anymore. If we discuss a serious issue, I always want to throw this in his face, even if it’s unrelated. There is a wall between us because of his response back then. How can I move past this old issue?

Do you feel you can’t be real with anyone? Take this free online lesson on the topic of secrets

“After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished …” (John 19:28 (NKJV).

“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” (John 19:30 (NKJV)

Salvation was completely accomplished on the cross that day.

According to Strong’s concordance, the word “salvation” includes the concepts of “rescue, safety, deliverance, health, victory, help, success in everything, welfare, save, and liberty.” That is a very exciting and comprehensive package, and it belongs to each one of us who have received Christ. Not that we experience all of these things from the moment we are saved, but they are available to us and by faith we can trust God to work each one of these things into our lives.

The Word tells us that we are to “work out our own salvation” (Philippians 2:12). Our salvation package is akin to Israel being given the Promised Land. Though they had not even entered into it yet, they had God’s assurance that it belonged to them, but they would have to go in and take it one piece at a time. All that salvation offers is our Promised Land, and it is already ours even though we may not be experiencing it yet. It is up to each one of us to understand what God’s sacrifice has provided for us, to believe by faith that we can have it, and then “work it out” by coming into alignment with God’s principals, and see the promises become a reality in our own lives. This is what it is to “take back what the enemy has stolen from us.”

“I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord” (Psalm 116:13).

“Let your mercies come also to me, O Lord, Your salvation according to Your Word” (Psalm 119:41).

“Lord I hope for your salvation and I do your commandments” (Psalm 119: 166).

“Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation” (Isaiah 12:3).

Questions: What does the word “salvation” mean to you?

How do we get out of this bad pattern?

Tonight, my wife and I had yet another argument over an issue that has plagued us repeatedly. We have never come to any conclusion. I hate talking about this issue, because I’m always wrong. If I offer a solution, she criticizes it. So I just zone out and wait for her to stop. She continues to poke and complain until I just can’t handle it anymore. If we don’t find a resolution to this particular issue, we are going to find ourselves with some big financial problems, and I’m afraid it will break us. Do you have any suggestions for effective dialogue on chronic issues?

Originally written by Charles H. Spurgeon, published in “Mornings & Evenings,” entry for August 27th, PM.
Updated to modern English by Darren Hewer, 2009.

“Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.” Psalm 31:5, KJV

These words have frequently been uttered by faithful people in their hour of departure. The object of a person’s main concern in life and death should not be their body, or their wealth, but their spirit. This is your most precious treasure, and if it is safe, all is well. How can your current physical maladies compare with your eternal soul?

A believer will commit their soul to the hand of God. We came from Him, are His own. He has sustained us, and He is able to keep us. And so it is appropriate that He should receive us back to Him.

All things are safe in God’s hands. What we entrust to the Lord will be secure, both now and until the end of days towards which we are fast approaching. It is peaceful living, and glorious dying, resting in the care of heaven. At all times we should commit all we have to Jesus’ faithful hand. Then, even when life hangs on a thread, and adversities multiply as the sands of the sea, our soul will dwell at ease, and delight itself in quiet resting places.

“Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.” God’s redemption is solid ground for having confidence. David didn’t know about Jesus’ death and resurrection as we do, but even his imperfect knowledge cheered him. And won’t eternal redemption even more sweetly console us? Past deliverances assure us of present assistance. What the Lord has done, He will do again. He never changes. He is faithful to His promises, and gracious to His saints. He will not turn away from His people.

“Though Thou slay me I will trust, Praise Thee even from the dust, Prove, and tell it as I prove, Thine unutterable love.

Thou mayst chasten and correct, But Thou never canst neglect; Since the ransom price is paid, On Thy love my hope is stay’d.”

Question: Have you committed your life to God?

The childish fears of our youth are usually replaced by new fears, or sometimes they just morph into more socially acceptable versions of those same childish fears. Watch this short film and then take a look at the related online study to think a bit more deeply about the themes explored in this brief story of Levi and a guy named Trick up a tree.
