There are plenty of “best” lists out there, but any such list will be incomplete. For one thing, what criteria would be used for such a list? Literary eloquence? Social impact? Perfect prose?

What about sales figures? On the list of best-selling books of all time, we find The Lord of the Rings sitting right beside Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
