Thank you for this article. This is the greatest area of my struggle in my walk with Christ. When am I doing what I should be doing and when am I taking on things that I'm not meant to take on. It's a real struggle. I often feel that if I have the ability to do something then I should automatically say "yes". I know that isn't true but I have such a hard time saying no to people. Thanks for your insight

I think it can be helpful to have some friends that we can talk about this stuff with and help hold each other accountable to the things we said we will drop. I think that is part of what Paul meant when he wrote, "Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:2)

This article nails it right on the head for me. Of course my conversations with my therapist circle around all of these points. But it is validating to hear all of this directly from women going through it.

I can't say any more that I don't have time to read my bible or all the great books I buy, but don't read. I can dance without being a helper in the dance studio. I can take my mom to the senior center without feeling compelled to come back and volunteer. I can use that time to decide what is most important to me and what I want the rest of my life to be filled with.

Love this article. This is what I struggle with the most. Being perfect in everthing and feeling like I have to do everything. I always say that I would love to "have time" to spend reading my bible and being with God. The truth is I do have time I just need to say "no" more often to what I think I need to do.

This story has motivated me to blow off schoolwork tomorrow and spend some time downtown scouting for Christmas gifts.

Of course, when my profs want to know why my stuff isn't in on time, I'm blaming you entirely. :)

(Actually, they never do ask. Ever. I think they understand that we all need lives, but in the corner of my mind I have constructed evil simulacra of my professors, who ALWAYS want to know why I'm goofing off, or sleeping, or grocery shopping, instead of doing the work I'm supposed to be doing.)

Wow! What a good reminder to look at our daily lives and evaluate exactly what kind of busyness is dictating our lives. I am learning to say 'no' because I am finally realizing that I just can't do it all! And saying 'yes' means that I have to say 'no' to something else because my days are already very full.
