Joy in Jesus

Written by M. Larson

If you have lost your joy and are hurting from the pain of having lost a relationship, we care and want to pray for you.

During this Christmas season we can have joy in Jesus, which is a very personal thing.

What a friend we have in Jesus! “There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother,” Proverbs 18:24 says. That is Jesus.

Our family may let us down, but Jesus never will.  Family and friends may misunderstand or take offense, but Jesus understands our every weakness and is always ready to forgive and help us. Earthly friends may prove untrue, but Jesus says, “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).

What a Savior we have in Jesus! An angel appeared to Joseph before Jesus was born and told him, “Don’t be afraid to take Mary for your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS (Savior), for He will save His people from their sins” (Luke 1:20-21).

Just think—Jesus does not just save us from having to pay the penalty for our sins, but He saves us from our sins now! The Bible says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace” (Romans 6:14). Is it not something to rejoice about, the fact that we no longer need to be slaves to sin? Christ gives us the power by His Spirit to live victorious, godly lives—abundant lives that allow us to have daily joy.

What a Master we have in Jesus! He is surely worth following to the ends of the earth! The Bible says, “His banner over me was love” (Song of Solomon 2:4). Let us look up at that banner of love, and at the Captain whose banner it is, and determine to be good soldiers for Him who has chosen us (2 Timothy 2:3-4).

Questions: How does having Jesus as your friend make a difference in your daily life? How can you, in turn, be a friend and display God’s love to someone in need this Christmas?
