How can I show love to my family?

Written by Judy Hildebrandt

showloveHow can I express love to my family so they will not only know they are loved, but will “feel” loved?

Advice: Two excellent resources that I’ve recently come across are:

  1. How To Say I Love You? (Video) Gary Ezzo
  2. The Five Love Languages (Book) Gary Chapman

Their thesis is that all of us have a primary love language and we “feel” most loved when love is expressed to us in that way. The five love languages they identify are:

  1. Physical touch
  2. Acts of service
  3. Quality time
  4. Words of encouragement
  5. Gift giving

After listening to the video, I began to make application to my own children. The video also explained to me why my children act the way they do. I have a 13-year-old boy who always wants to go with me on the most mundane errands and being a quieter child, it’s his opportunity to chirp away about things he’s thinking about – quality time. My 15-year-old daughter has a higher need for hugs and physical touch than the rest of us. My youngest is incredibly touched by receiving gifts. By expressing love in the primary love language of your children or mate, you will help them “feel” loved!

Check out these resources, I’m sure you’ll find them very interesting!
