If you want to know God, it’s simple. All you need to do is ask!

If you’re not sure how, you can pray a prayer like this:

God I need you. Please forgive me for the things I’ve done. Forgive me for turning my back on you and going my own way. Take control of my life and make me more like you. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Thank you for your love. Amen.

What would you like us to call you?

When you scroll through your social media feeds, what do you see?

We love to ‘like’ photos of sleeping babies, mouthwatering meals, and smiling couples.

You don’t see pictures of those same babies screaming at two in the morning, Mama bargaining for sleep. You don’t see too many people captioning photos of the dishes left in the sink after that delicious meal has been made. You definitely don’t see any 7-second videos of couples fighting, or cheating, or wondering whether they’ll be able to make rent this month.

Who wants to see that?

With everyone showcasing their highlight reels, it’s easy to focus on our own behind-the-scenes footage and compare. In an effort to make it look like we’ve got it all together, we push the mess out of the frame when we share our lives with others; we wipe away tears and reapply mascara before we smile for a selfie. We strive to at least look like the picture-perfect versions of ourselves so that when the world looks on, they see something worth their approval.

Does this sound like you? Do you long for something more?

What Jennifer says in this video is true: no amount of ‘likes’ will to satisfy us. There is only one way to fill our bottomless need for love and acceptance and it is through the person of Jesus Christ, who created us for Himself.

I used to think that there were only a few things in life worth sharing: my achievements, excitement and happiness.

I became so good at putting first my best features that it almost seemed rehearsed, and when played in reverse it was plain to see the build up of debris hidden inside of me.

I wanted it to seem as if I had everything worked out, even though every single day I was striking out.

My failures, fears and despair were things I couldn’t bear to share so I had to cover them up and hide it all behind a mask hoping that no one would ask.

I was empty.

It became routine to clean only what could be seen, like shoving the dirty dishes out of sight and wishing even I could forget about the fights that happened every single night.

I got so used to using an insincere smile to hide what’s inside. Sometimes I would even lie awake at night thinking of ways to make myself fake in order to make up someone who matters.

But I was still empty.

Even when I could feel a moment of completeness, something came in to steal it.

Something must be missing.

I started to wonder if it was just me, if it was only me who had to struggle to be free from my own mistakes – putting everything at stake to be seen as that person who has everything all together.

But you see, I was searching for all the wrong things thinking that something could fill this empty feeling when it’s really someone who brings fullness – it’s Jesus.

What I never really realized before is that we were created to know God. We were made to have relationship with Him.

There was a time when humanity once walked with God, but chose to search for other things that would satisfy. We sinned.

We were created for a face-to-face relationship with God but now we’re standing back to back with Him instead.

We did a complete 180!

The emptiness we feel, the unrelenting void that we just can’t seem to avoid? We did that.

But you see it was never intended to be like this forever!

God sent Jesus to take our shame upon Himself. He died on the cross for our mistakes; He came to make us new.

He died, but He also rose again, not only defeating death but inviting us in. He brings freedom. And in case you were thinking He somehow forgot or misplaced you, turn around: He was there in the first place

We no longer have to hide behind a disguise of lies because Jesus’ eyes don’t look down on or despise, they aren’t searching for the wise or trying to revise – they love.

He bestows grace upon grace upon grace until we are full to the brim without any more room to hold onto our past mistakes

You see, He loved us from the start. Even in our deepest, darkest moment of sin He still stood at the door knocking to be let in.

His grace made me new, and He will do the same for you too.

Jesus is the only one who brings fullness so stop searching for the one who is standing before you saying:

I choose you.

If you want, you can talk these things through with a mentor before you make this leap. You won’t regret it.

If I understand your post correctly, you deny that there is one God—that being the God of the Bible. What reasons do you have for believing that? Also, I wonder then what you believe happens to a person when they die?

You suggest that the Bible was merely a man-inspired history book, and that it has been changed over time. While I don’t agree with that, if that were true, then how would you be able to speak about things Jesus said and know that’s really what he taught?

It seems you believe that it’s up to a person to forgive themselves. But what would that accomplish? Why would it be necessary to forgive youself—some sort of freedom? What do you mean by freedom? Freedom from, or for, what?

  • Hi I have took time to read a lot of of what you have to say but I simply don’t agree with what i have seen on this blog yes its true their is wroute to true freedom and it this you simply have to love each weather sinful or not and to believe in your self. The bible is merely a history book telling a story of mankind although its has changed over time the bible was writen by man as a route of control I have never in my met a true beliver I do believe in the man Jesus but to say he is the son god us rediculase consept put on us the very basic truth is no one can grant you forgiveness for your sins is one self and to allow your self to live without predudis of other’s you say god true how can that be god is not of love its choice that’s makes us whole by choice I mean that any man or Woman can ether choose to hate or love each other I have what some would call a sinner but to say that I need God’s forgiveness is wrong I choose to forgive my self for my traspases and opened my heart to love and to be honest and true one self.Jesus was not reborn its his idea that everyone is equel and that no man should seek to inslave others.you continue to go on about the bible just what bible do you mean Jesus him self would slap you if he knew what some would try to make us believe Jesus words are just all men are equal black white gay strait its those who try to put their will apon us by these means that is the problem in this world to say that God only loves Christian people is the problem the Church is to blame for all the sinner’s in this world and the day us coming when all will understand this ask your self this who rule the world today just look a the Vatican today they have the wealth to make a difference in the world but chose to do nothing about the war’s in this world today and you ask us to show faith in a Church that has no love in its hart and keep the true word of Jesus hidin from us to keep control so you can take you sick ideals and shove then right up where they belong the Church is the problem not us who chose to believe in the words of Jesus that all humanity should be set free from bondage and free from persicution thats the true word of Jesus not this nonsense you’re breaching. Frankly you anger us who wish to be free by your own believes that discrimates those who don’t believe in you’re so called one god that is the evil in this world.

This blog is called Picture Perfect. I guess it is what a lot of us would like to be but we are not. However, I thank God that for me, a good few years ago I found a way of being “acceptable” to God our creator which seemed to me the most important thing I could be. That was because I really understood for the first time that it was through Jesus and Him only that I could be acceptable. I gladly started to follow Him and find great joy and purpose in doing that in spite of the many sorrows I see all around us every day. I would say that Picture Perfect for me is finding true peace with God. Thanks to everybody who has contributed here. It’s so good to share.

Oh, Karine, I so totally relate to that that it hurts. I wish it was forgotten. My first supervisor finally told me to count to 10 in a group meeting before commenting because I offended others. I have spent years trying to solve that unintentional problem.

After many years, I learned to ask “What would Jesus say?” and I try to remember what He so kindly did say to the down-trodden, to the hurting, to the out-cast, and others, and I try to mimic Him.

Read the Gospels and learn from Him . . . He is The Teacher . . . . blessings will flow . . . in His name, Amen.

I unconsciously offend people when I talk. I say to myself that it is defensive talk but I realize that I can be around people but not really connect. I realize that after a month at my new working place i offended in way or another most of the people working in my section. I want to change, I really need Jesus In my Life, I want to be happy from within

We are made in the image of God and for a relationship with Him. Therefore, only God can satisfy the deepest longings of our heart. To have that relationship, one need only to repent (turn from their sins) and trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. That’s the only thing that will “complete” us.

  • Jo says:

Why is it only God that can satisfy?

  • Jo says:

    I wanna feel complete too!
