Evangelism is a Conversation

Written by Claire Colvin

Evangelism is all about getting to know people and seeing where they are in relation to Jesus. Sometimes evangelism looks like a sermon – you’ve heard your pastor share the Gospel on a Sunday morning. Other times, and maybe more often, evangelism looks like a conversation.

It starts with caring about people enough to ask questions and really listen to the answers. It’s about being humble and developing trust. It means putting down my agenda and steps and being genuinely curious about the other person’s thoughts about God. It’s about really listening and helping people move closer to Christ, little step by little step until they’re ready to say, “Yes” to Him.

It’s really not that complicated, so why do so many of us struggle with introducing the people in our lives to Jesus? One of the biggest reasons is that we’re afraid. We get nervous that we might get asked a question that’s too difficult to answer. We think that maybe we should leave it to the experts.

But Jesus didn’t leave it to the experts.

The second half of Acts 1:8 says, “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

No way was the Gospel going to spread to the ends of the earth if just a handful of the elite strapped on their sandals and started walking. The message had to spread from person to person to person.

Sharing the message of Jesus is something that we’re all commanded to do. When was the last time you had a real conversation about Jesus with someone in your life? If it’s been awhile, what’s holding you back?

Now that you’ve had a taste of Treasure: Jesus is Worth Everything, keep watching! Start the series right now, or grab a workbook and a couple of friends and do the study together.

Thank you for this post, evangelism is to share the truth, and you need to have faith to share it and also knowledge.
    God bless you

Fouad–Thanks for your comment. You are right that it takes faith to witness. Of course, anyone who has been born again as a Christian has enough faith to witness. As for knowledge? How much knowledge does a person need to come to faith in Jesus Christ? An understanding of their sinful condition, their need for a Savior, and knowing they must repent and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s all the knowledge that Christians need to share with the unsaved! I hope you will be a bold witness for Jesus Fouad!
