Everybody’s a Fighter – Vitor Belfort Video provided by: I Am Second

When life gives you lemons… you make lemonade. Right? Making the best out of a time of suffering is only easily said to someone else until you are knee-deep in despair yourself. As a UFC Champion, Vitor Belfort is used to being in the ring to fight. However, it wasn’t until his sister was kidnapped until he realized what it really meant to be thrown into the ring of fire. Wracked with pain and confusion, Vitor had to find a way to cope with an unresolved wound.

Make it personal!
Why is there evil and suffering?

Evadne, I completely agree with you, that Vitor’s testimony is a powerful witness to the transforming power of Jesus Christ in our lives – IF we are willing to surrender our hearts to Him! And just like Vitor said, it is so necessary that we realize that our transformation is a work of God, and it is a process. I truly believe that, although we so often want instant results as a result of living in such a fast-paced society today – especially when we are in the midst of trial and suffering, as Vitor was experiencing in his life even before his sister was abducted – our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, knows at what rate we need and are capable of handling growth so as to best be transformed into His perfect image and likeness. This is the goal of God, and it needs to be our goal, as well: to become evermore like our Lord Jesus, rather than to attain all our selfish wants and desires.

I can so relate to Vitor with his promises to follow Jesus if only He would give me this or that. Yet, like Vitor, I would not follow through on my word to the Lord. However, Jesus remained faithful to me, despite my repeated failures to Him. Like He says in John 2:24-25:

“24 But Jesus [for His part] did not trust Himself to them, because He knew all [men]; 25 And He did not need anyone to bear witness concerning man [needed no evidence from anyone about men], for He Himself knew what was in human nature. [He could read men’s hearts.][Amplified Bible].”

This is the very reason that Jesus gave His life for us: He knew that we did not have what it took in our character to save ourselves; we desperately need Him! And out of His amazing love, mercy, and grace, He wanted to restore the relationship that was lost with us as a result of our sin.

I am grateful to you, Vitor, for the reminder of my need to surrender my will and my heart to Jesus, and to continue to do so every day of my life! For, truly, I am nothing and I can do nothing without Him! Thanks so much for your wonderful testimony. I extend my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your sister. May God bless you richly as you continue to live your life for Him!

Thank you Vitor for such a wonderful testimony of the transforming power of Jesus Christ. So sorry to hear about your sister but happy to know that you no longer harbour the thoughts of revenge. Over the past couple of weeks some hideous crimes have been committed against women and children in my country and folks have been screaming for “jungle justice” I wish they could hear your testimony and turn to Jesus Christ. Blessings my brother!
