God, If You’re Out There I Need Some Help

*Mike fought cancer with joy and great faith, but passed away on September 30th, 2014. This is his story.

It started with a trip to a walk-in clinic. Then there was the phone call, “You need to come to the hospital right now.” Then came more tests and an uncomfortable conversation with a nurse who had the tough job of saying the words, “We think you have leukemia.”

Mike is a creative guy, he’s into music and photography. Years ago when he first tried weed he felt it opened his mind, made him more creative and he liked the way it felt.  When a friend offered him OxyContin he took it and that’s when life started to get really messy.

OxyContin is highly addictive. It’s also very expensive and Mike turned to fraud to get his fix. Months later the police caught up with him, took his money and his pills and that’s when Mike started looking for help elsewhere.

God, if you’re out there I need some help.

Mike found God during a year-long stint with Teen Challenge. Now he’s figuring out what faith looks like when the doctors are measuring your life expectancy in months. This is his story.

Where are you in your walk with God today? Would you be pleased to talk to God about what you’ve been doing with your life lately? The Christian life is always more than we can handle on our own. That’s why God left us the Holy Spirit – His own presence with us each and every day. You can invite the Holy Spirit to work in your life today by praying a prayer like this:

Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have sinned against You by directing my own life. I thank You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ’s death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I pray this in the name of Jesus. I now thank You for filling me with the Holy Spirit and directing my life.

And don’t stop there; take it a step further. Invite others to find eternal life through Jesus too. Use this link to share the evangelistic version of this story on Facebook and Twitter.

As I have been reading thru these messages, I am hurting for everyone who is suffering mentally and/or physically. I just want to encourage you to be strong. Stand firm in your faith! Jesus said he will never leave you nor forsake you. I have been thru many rough times in my life, but not once has Jesus left me to face my trials alone. He is always with you in Spirit. He hurts when you hurt and joyous when you are joyful. He is your very best friend when no one else is there for you. Please keep you eyes and your mind focused on His Word and on Him. He loves you so very much :) I also want to say that when we sing to Jesus and praise Him, it will lift your spirit to face another day. One day, this life will be over and we will be with Him for eternity. Have faith and stay strong!

I am blue today and it’s difficult concentrating on faith. I have been thinking of what a difficult life it’s been and how futile this life is.

I have relaxed from last week when my boyfriend almost died from a slow heart rate, then in the mail I see my state health insurance has been cut off due to my luxurious, ha ha, disability income. Now I can not get my monthly prescription. I can not afford insurance deductible, copay, coinsurance, all the co’s through Obamacare and even better, I will be fined for being poor. Without the medication I will slowly and tortuously get worse. With my illness I will slowly become bedridden and then really get to enjoy my heartaches.

I think what has happened to me? I used to be a happy and fun person, now I am sad and cry frequently. I have been known to wake up from sleep weeping. If I am around others I find a private place to cry so as to not affect others. My heart feels so heavy and I am downright gloomy. I am a good person, why?

As for the insurance I am sure I am in the same situation as many others. It just seems with every brief glimmer of good in life it is immediately followed by something bad that is worse than the last problem. You begin to wonder how much more do I have to endure?

I study the Bible, I pray frequently, I beg for forgiveness of my sins, I wish for peace. My 44 years have been so difficult. What can I do to find peace?

Jackie, I really meant it when I said God is on our side and He is fighting for us. Sometimes He does leave us in challenging circumstances for a while, but in the end, He is building our faith and confidence in Him, His care and His love. Answered prayers for those we love are a part of this, because as James 1:17 tells us, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” May God continue to bless you and your family!

  • Jackie says:

Elkay, Thank you for the new perspective. I will continue to study. In the midst of pain and suffering it is difficult to focus on love and kindness but I am learning.

I was put to the test yesterday when my 44 year old passed out and at the ER his pulse was 13 beats per minute, the I prayed to God and I have him home healthy today.

Thank you again for your outlook.

Jackie, as you study, may I call your attention to 1 John 2:12-14, NLT. If you “paraphrase” these verses you will see that God has won your battle with MS, even if you are not healed today.

We are Good God’s children so our real identity is as a son of God. God is our Father and we are a daughter of His. We are accepted by Him; He’s not up there mad at us for our sins. He died for us so to set us free from the penalty of sin, free from depression, fear, frustration and hurt so that we might experience an abundant life. He’s not condemning us. . . . He’ s cheering us on.

Yes, sometimes He’ll give us a hard lesson because He has a heart to break us out of that place that’s hurting us. Why? Because He is love. So we can have a calm confidence that our battle in life is already won, already won! We have an eternal future ahead with Him!

One of the neatest things in life is facing things that look impossible and thinking “That battle is God’s; that battle has been won.” I don’t know how exactly, but our job isn’t to win the battle; it isn’t to fix it, to fix anybody. Our job is to join God as His disciple as He is winning the battle and we are to be a Jesus-follower and have confidence in God. Please do study 1 John 2:12-14 (NLT) and see how the Word describes this.

  • Jackie says:

Chris, thank you for the information and prayer. I will continue to study.

  • Chris says:

jackie…sorry to hear you are struggling…when it comes to our physical health, we first need to be sure we have a healthy relationship with christ who died for us so we could live with him. if you are not sure if you are saved from your sins through christ, log onto knowingjesuspersonally.com or click talk to a mentor above. as you do, then fill your life with gods promises for your physcial well being…exodus 15.26, deuteronomy 7.15, psalm 103, mark 16, james 5.15, etc all show us that physical healing is posible through a relationship with christ. have godly people pray for you. if you dont have a church let me know. i pray jesus come and touch you today, raise you up and give you your spiritual and physical inheritance in him amen!

  • Jackie says:

I am waning again with my faith. I do not feel good from MS. I pray and meditate continuously to no avail and feel worse each moment. I feel something is seriously wrong but keep the fear hidden until I am alone. Others do not understand and I have even been told wincing from pain to get over it. I wish more than anything I could. What can I do for help?

  • Jackie says:

Thank you Chris for your prayers. Today I will spend relaxing & meditating. Only strength in faith.

  • Chris says:

jackie…we pray for you in jesus name that you would feel better. that you would have your needs all met. that jesus would confort you and give you supernatural strength and health for his glory. come holy spirit and fill up jackies life today!

  • Jackie says:

I need prayers please. I have MS. I am having big troubles between my Dr and getting my required prescription filled. My boyfriend doesn’t understand why I am upset telling me not to cry and to get over it when I meet a hurdle after hurdle. It is so hard to keep faith with so much resistance.

  • Kathryn Kathryn says:

Sherry, It’s a while since you wrote in asking for prayer for a difficult situation. I just wanted to say that I am praying for you right now and I trust that you have seen considerable improvement in the issues that have been distressing you. It is not easy when our faith is severely tested but it is something that all believers have to face at some time and we do not face it alone. That’s why it is good to share and we know that even though we may not always feel Him close, God says He will never leave or forsake us. I pray you may know His peace.

  • Jackie says:

Sherry, I completely understand how you have ‘had it’ but you must keep your faith strong. Think of it this way, when you feel you can not take anymore, I mean you’ve had enough, who is with you? God is with you, that is when you dig in and really pray for guidance, help, and love. Then you will have strength to shorten the desire to give in the next time and the next after that and each time, soon you will accomplish anything and everything. This theory helps me…

  • Jamie Jamie says:

Hi Sherry, I am sorry that no one has responded to you sooner. What is happening in your life right now? Has God helped you through your faith crisis? Do you have people in your life that you can talk to about this?

Lord God I do pray for Sherry as she struggles through this difficult situation that has upended the foundations of her faith. I pray that she would find the answers in You and grow in her understanding of who You are. Amen.

Sherry, if you would prefer a more private setting to talk with someone let me invite you to connect with one of our mentors. They are safe people that will pray with you and help you as you struggle with your questions. Just fill out the Mentor Request Form at http://powertochange.com/experience/talk-to-a-mentor/ and one of our mentors will connect with you by email.

  • Sherry says:

I am in a faith crisis. I am going through something at the moment that has really tested my faith to the very limit and has led me to be angry, bitter and resentful. Whoever reads this please pray for me. I have absolutely had it!

    hi Ijeoma,

my Bible says the confidence we have in Jesus Christ is that whatever we ask in His name he would do, in the name of Jesus Christ according to Job 22:28, i decree and declare peace @ your work place every accusation/error/mistake has turned to you for a testimony. in Jesus name Amen!!

  • Claire Colvin Claire Colvin says:

Hi Ijeoma, If you would like to connect with a prayer mentor, just click the Need Prayer button in the top right corner of this page and someone from our team will connect with you and pray for you.

  • Alfred says:

Well, Ijeoma, You’ve come to the right place! God not only knows your office issues, but He also has the answers, for He knows what atrocities are being committed and by whom. Sometimes God allows such difficulties to come, so that we while calling on Him are drawn to know Him better. I have just been on my knees as the Spirit led me in prayer about this, and feel that it is in place to type out a prayer for all who read this:
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for this opportunity for Ijeoma to see You at work I pray that you give the guilty people a sense of shame about what they are doing, in that they experience an awareness of the fact that You are watching! I pray that an apology be followed by deep repentance and a changing of behavior. We let go of it, so that You can take hold of the situation. Thank you for the “clean-up job”. We praise You for what you do, and worship You for who you are. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
