Shermeen: Making an Impact
Shermeen’s Path to the Only Satisfying Relationship:
>I used to think that my purpose and life was just about being good, doing good, and making a positive impact in people’s lives. Then one day my brother suggested life might be about worshipping God. When I look back on my life now, that is totally my purpose. It’s a simple phrase but it means so much. I exist to know God personally and worship him.
>One day I realized that doing good and making an impact was not enough. I thought about the difference between helping people medically or physically compared to helping them spiritually, the stuff that’s inside a person.
What’s the difference between saving people physically and saving their souls? We have a responsibility to feed the poor and hungry, and take care of the needy in a physical sense, yes. But that has to come alongside of what Jesus did. Jesus always addressed the person’s spiritual condition first in all his interactions with people.
>I want people to remember me as a person who had joy even in the most challenging of circumstances, someone who’s joy came from having a personal relationship with God.
>It’s so easy to get caught up with all the details of school, which leaves you overwhelmed and frustrated. Having faith in God gives me the big picture of why I’m studying.
It’s God’s gift that I can be at university to study and learn more about his world and creation. When I have that kind of attitude, it gives me joy to be able to study. It gives me a greater purpose to do my best, and learn as much as I can.
>Life is all about relationships. Especially when you’re a student, you are learning how to build relationships, be that with people in your residence, classmates, girl/boyfriend, or teachers.
You’re missing out if you don’t have a relationship with God, the very one who made you. It’s the most fulfilling relationship you could ever have. No other relationship ultimately satisfies.
