Marchese in Mexico
This is the story of Mike Marchese.
When I was made aware of LIG International projects in March of ’09, I wasn’t interested. I doubted: what could a group of business leaders really do in Mexico? Then, one Sunday, God used a sermon to speak to my heart. It was about the Great Commission, and by the end of the sermon, my wife turned to me and said, “you know you are going to Mexico right?”
We arrived in Queretaro, Mexico and were immediately immersed in training. By day three I had participated in my first project: speaking at a University in San Juan Del Rio. I shared a business message and transitioned into my story. The interaction with the audience was great! Before I knew it, I was leading twelve students in prayer as they made the decision to start a relationship with Jesus.
This kind of response to the Gospel blew me away. I now understand that it was not myself, or our group, who changed their hearts that day – God was working in an amazing way.
The next night I travelled two hours to speak to a group of business people in Pachuca, Mexico. In spite of the previous night, I was nervous and uneasy, but by the end of the night, every single person in the room prayed with us.
All of us were uplifted and blessed by the experience – it was just the beginning. I had never seen God work as He did in Mexico and I needed more of it.
Two months later, I contacted Ron and Margareth Carrothers to do what I was planning in cooperation with LIG. Six months after my first plunge, I was back in Queretaro speaking at not two but three Universities, as well as three other meetings. I was blessed with the opportunity to speak to and share my story with over 1,000 people in just four days! The most amazing thing I learned: regardless of your talents, gifts, experience, or lack thereof, we just need to be faithful and GO as we are commanded to… without fear. God will show up! And he will work out the details better than you or I could. I look forward to seeing what God will do through the many dedicated volunteers and staff of LIG in the next six months.
