Trick-or-Treat and Walk-and-Pray
This Halloween trick-or-treaters won’t be the only ones walking the neighbourhoods. Breakthrough Prayer is launching a nationwide prayer walk this Halloween weekend. Director Emmie Stanley shared “the focus will be on urban centers and youth. The heart of the matter will be to address the profound darkness that has infiltrated our culture.”
Halloween is a spiritually active time of the year and Breakthrough Prayer is seeking to restrain the forces of the enemy. “Kids are tempted by drugs, premarital sex, gangs… that’s what this is really about,” says Emmie. Oct 29-31, Breakthrough Prayer is inviting you, your friends, your church, and anyone you know to walk the streets, schools yards, and neighbourhoods.
Emmie believes that when we are obedient and we go, we can really see the Lord working. Recently, she and others from Breakthrough Prayer had the opportunity to experiment with some “active” prayer. They went to two local county fairs, set up a tent, and began to pray. In four days, they had over 100 conversations with people who came to them seeking – searching for answers and for friendship. The visitors received prayer and mentoring as well as valuable resources such as New Testaments, Soul Cravings, tracts in different languages, and more.
Breakthrough Prayer witnessed 5 salvations and a variety of life-changing encounters. Emmie shares two:
• A family from the far east, new to Canada, said to us, “we want to know more about this Jesus!” They picked up a New Testament and after perusing it they said, “This is going to be a good book!”
• One girl shared with us about her feelings of isolation and loneliness. She was being bullied at school. We encouraged her to love others as Christ would and she went away visibly refreshed with a smile on her face.
We at Power to Change look forward to hearing about the upcoming prayer walk and supporting Breakthrough Prayer as they seek to bring light into the Oct 29-31 weekend.
