Take Care of Your Core
“Are you interested in hearing about God’s calling on my life?” asks Bob Armstrong of Oasis Canada.
Am I interested? I stammer, “Ya… y-yes of course!” as I quickly prepare myself to soak up a remarkable story:
Thirteen years ago, God very clearly called me and said, “Heal my people.” It happened twice in one day. It was my burning bush. I hadn’t heard from Him in that way for quite a while.
I wondered, “What do you want me to do with that, God?”
Fast-forward one year later: my wife Penny and I participated in a church healing. We brought leaders together and spent a year meeting together and rebuilding. We witnessed how healing the leaders can impact an entire church.
Over the course of the next ten years, we brought pastors into our house monthly to pray and encourage one another. I also gained experience in the spiritual healing ministry at various disaster relief operations. I went to Biloxy, Mississippi when Katrina hit; Staten Island, NY for 9/11; and Kelowna, British Columbia for the fires. All of this was preparing us for Oasis.
We went to a conference and liked it a lot but never said anything to anyone. One day we met with John Radford, who is a great man, and before anything happened he asked us, “does healing mean anything to you?” We broke from the depths of our being as God once again was speaking. God wanted us to heal the leaders in this nation.
The vision is expanding. We want to preserve the longevity of people in ministry all across Canada, and let them know that Oasis is a resting stop. It’s normal and needed for people in ministry to refresh and rejuvenate: the same way you would maintain your teeth or car. If you take care of the core of your person, you will function better!
Our prayer is that God would provide the financial needs of our ministry, and in time, volunteers to take this across the country.
And here I am, getting the calling, the vision, and the mission in a wonderful bundle. Thank you, Bob, for what you and Penny are doing through Oasis. We stand by you, support you, and look forward to hearing what God does in and through you.
