Take A Walk

Set up signposts, make landmarks; Set your heart toward the highway, the way in which you went. Turn back, oh virgin of Israel, turn back to these your cities. Jeremiah 31:21

Groups and individuals all across Canada (and other nations) took up the challenge to walk through their communities and cities to call upon the Lord for their neighbours. Here are a couple of the stories we received…

Our group participated in the Breakthrough “Take A Walk” prayer campaign last evening. We walked around our local neighborhood including the  pool, the Police Station, School Board Office, Hospital, Fire Station, Ambulance station,  the businesses, the homes  and the elementary school.  We ended the evening at the local coffee house with a warm drink.  None of us had done a prayer walk before, but we used the flyer [Emmie] sent me and used “the Holy Spirit”. We really had fun, and it was wonderful to try something new and exciting. We don’t have any amazing stories except that we were obedient to doing the walk, and it was a stretching, growing, bold maneuver for us. Thank you for all that you do to equip so many for being the hands and feet and voice for Kingdom building.

Our group walked through our inner-city area, where there are many social challenges impacting families and individuals. After the walk we went for coffee and discussion about our experience, one group member shared how the Lord spoke to him about how every home is like an individual entity, but those individuals need to come together in community in order to experience care and support.  For me this highlights the importance of the church and how it does function as a place for people to receive those elements of life that bind us together, and give us the courage to do life well on a daily basis. In other words, “no man is an Island.” We were also very struck by the power of  prayer walking for our community, realizing that we had begun something that the Spirit was calling us to engage in on a regular basis. We will go again next month.  Following our walk by sharing our experience over coffee was very refreshing and encouraging too.

Oh the riches of God that we experience when we follow His lead and enter into His kingdom purposes. That which just sounds like hard work, becomes a fountain of refreshing  and strength to us personally, and His work is accomplished for the hope of nations.  Enter in, walk in agreement with God’s plan for your life, and experience His abundant goodness!

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Psalm 34:8-10
