Shoe-ing the Love of God

Breakthrough Prayer is committed to showing the love of Jesus in practical ways in Douglas Park Community School. Recently we received a call from one of the teachers, explaining that the students were going to the regional track meet. She explained that most of the children did not have runners and were in fact sharing the few that were available and taking turns running. She wondered if Breakthrough Prayer would be able to help.

I explained the need to the Power to Change Staff at our Chapel time, and the ensuing outpouring of generosity was an overwhelming example of the heart of our staff to care for our community. Some even got friends and family involved.

We then contacted Payless Shoes and were able to speak to the manager who was herself a graduate of Douglas Park School. Understanding the need, she offered such a great deal that we were able to buy thirty-two pairs of shoes for less than $8.00 each.

The teachers were so overwhelmed and grateful. With tears running down her cheeks, the gym teacher explained that she had even been taking off her own runners for the children to use. It was wonderful to see all the students in their brand new shoes on the big day at the track!

Small things can have huge impact, and I know that the teachers and students were blessed by this simple gift.  Praise God for the practical ways that He gives us to show care to our community.
