The Importance of One

“Be one” is how Guy Saffold, the global director of The Life, summarizes the core of Power to Change’s newest ministry. “It’s about how Jesus calls each one of us to live life to the fullest, to be one who follows Jesus, one who shares his or her faith, and so on.”

Since its inception, The Life has been committed to calling people to full and unqualified commitment to Jesus, equipping them to share their faith, and training them to inspire others to do the same. Saffold explains that one of The Life’s major goals is “to raise up 10 million multiplying disciples around the world by 2020.”

While equipping believers to share their faith on such a massive, global scale could hardly be characterized as an easy task, The Life is a growing, dynamic movement that is ready to make this vision a reality, with Saffold leading the way.

Formerly appointed the executive director of ministries in 2006, Saffold felt called to take on the leadership and direction of The Life in 2012, a role that became available once his position was taken over by Rick Franklin. With a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Saffold brings extensive experience in senior leadership and has previously held positions of interim CEO and executive vice president of Trinity Western University prior to being asked to join Power to Change.

Above all, Saffold has always had a demonstrated commitment to the cause of Christ worldwide (a commitment that includes his years as a Bible teacher and pastor). With a strong ability for strategic thinking, vision development and planning, he is passionate about leading The Life to have maximum impact in the world.

And the movement is growing.

From last year’s successful and inspiring Global Conference to an upcoming follow-up conference in Paris in order to collaborate with 11 projects around the world to mobilize and train millions of people, The Life has seen some remarkable developments. In terms of current goals for 2014, Saffold mentions growing the number of people registered on TheLife.com, as well as increasing the ministry’s Facebook followers. A new video teaching series, Shine: Make Jesus Known, is currently in the works, which is the follow-up to Treasure: Jesus is Worth Everything, and eventually after that, the final series called Multiply: Take Jesus to the World. As part of its international expansion, there are also plans to translate the Treasure series into French, Dutch and Thai.

In the midst of all the strategizing and planning, the ultimate reward for Saffold is seeing the Kingdom of God grow as people become followers of Christ and ordinary believers are motivated to share their faith. “When you strategize, it’s not easy to figure out the big question, which is, how do you change a life?” he says. “But everything we do involves a spiritual process, as we’re trying to fulfill a goal that is beyond human effort.”

He adds, “The key to our ministry is trying to understand how we can partner with God every step of the way.”

One Response to “The Importance of One”

  • Kyle says:

We should understand the importance of every single person and every single talent. Therefore we can get better success in different field while following these concepts of the importance of one; most probably one single person means leadership. A leader is also a single person who is able to tie different group of people into a single group; it is the power of one who bring success and revolutionary change in the society and organization. There we never underestimate the power of one.
