I want to live life to the fullest, and live it the way it was meant to be lived.

But life can be hard, and I strive to walk through life openly and honestly. I want to keep it REAL.

I don’t think we are meant to walk life alone, but in relationship. Firstly in a relationship with our Creator and then with each other. I love God first. Then I love others as I love myself. Really?… I try to!

30 Second Challenge: Listening to Your Kids

At twenty-six years of age I was eight months pregnant with our fourth child. It seemed like I spent most of my time wiping counters, faces, hands, or bottoms. I often had at least one child clinging to my pant legs, either wanting my attention or just randomly tattling on the others. In the middle […] Read More >

Blind Spots and Marriage Satisfaction

I was in a fender bender. Granted, it happened years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday! In my mind’s eye I can see the whole event: Pulling onto a main road I remember looking both ways before crossing the road and merging into the north bound lane. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a […] Read More >

Choosing My Response: Adaptive Parenting

This is totally weird!  We packed up the car and the four of us headed out for spring break. The first part that is weird is the car part. You see, we have been driving the family van for the past 16 years.  The “loser cruiser” is what our teenage children call it.  But we […] Read More >

Do You Like Me

We took a holiday by a lake in the mountains.  The sky was blue, the water cool and the mountains surrounding the lake was surreal in beauty and magnitude. Bobbing on air mattresses that I had purchased the week before from the local hardware store for a whopping $12.97, I asked my husband the million […] Read More >

Do You ‘See Red’ or ‘Green’? A Simple Marriage Test

Don’t look around. Just stare straight at these words and try to remember all the green objects around you. No peeking. Got your list? Now look and count all the objects around you that are categorically green. Didn’t notice how many green things were around you before, did you… This is a simple test which […] Read More >

Give a Gift to Your Relationship

My early morning jog seemed colder than normal. I felt chilled to the bone, so I stayed in the hot shower a bit longer than usual.  I had almost exhausted the hot water supply when I finally turned off the taps. Through the curtains my husband handed me a towel.  As I wrapped the fresh […] Read More >

Heading for the Exit

Recently we were in Banff at a “Weekend Getaway” Marriage Conference. We arrived a day early to help set up for this large event. I was stacking the weekend’s workbooks behind the registration table when I heard a song.  The hotel staff provided music played over the large sounds system and I laughed out loud […] Read More >

Loud and Clear: Without Words

Yesterday, as I was dropping my daughter off at the local high school we had a rather startling conversation about marital commitment. We had been talking about one of her friends whose parents had just separated. The transition had been tough on her friend. Separation, strained living situations and the drama surrounding the family was […] Read More >

Making a List

I recommend making a list. The list I’m referring to is a friendship list. Yesterday I had a great conversation with an old friend.  “One of my friends had a brilliant idea,” she said on the phone yesterday.  “A couple of years ago, she made a list of all the people that she didn’t want […] Read More >

More Than Directions

The trail suddenly and definitely came to an end. It had been getting narrower for the past kilometer or so, and at times it looked more like a run-off streamlet compared to a trail.  But it abruptly ended. I ventured out a few more steps, then gave myself a bit of a scare as I […] Read More >
