“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do, I will not forsake them” (Isaiah 42:16).
Do you sometimes feel stuck? You want to do what’s right but you don’t know what that is. If only God would show you clearly, then you could make wise decisions, right?
My husband’s mental illness plunged our family into one crisis after another. Many times I didn’t know what to do. One day as I was watching a play in the theater I prayed, “Lord Jesus, light up my life like that stage.” If God would give me more light I would be better equipped to make wise decisions that affected our whole family.
Halfway through the first scene, an usher came down the aisle guiding two latecomers. In his right hand he held a flashlight forming a small circle of light at their feet. Slowly he moved ahead to the appropriate row, and then he shone the light onto two vacant seats. He waited until the man and woman sat down. Then he turned off the flashlight, and walked quietly back to the entrance.
That’s how I lead you! The thought was a clear as though God had spoken audibly. As you read my written Word and obey it, you’ll have enough light to know what step to take next. Trust and obey Me.
When you cannot see the way ahead, I’ve found it helpful to do the following:
- read the Bible every day. I’ve found Isaiah especially helpful.
- pray that you will hear God’s guiding voice
- do the thing at hand. What step can you take right now to make the world a better place for someone else?
Thank you, Heavenly Father, that You lead us one step at a time, like that usher, so that You’re near enough to catch us should we stumble and fall. Amen.
Questions: Are you in a situation right now where you feel you don’t know what to do? Explain. What will be the first step you need to take in order to allow God is guiding you?

I needed to read this today. I am dealing with multiple health issues and don’t have health insurance. I need God to lead me to the right doctor or show me the cause or what to do, but I feel I can’t hear him.
I am STUCK in a tough marriage. The decisions my husband makes leave our family very vulnerable. I want to divorce but I have no Biblical basis. Help!!!
This was just for me today. My husband and I are working through many difficulties in our marriage and I continually cry out to God for guidance. It seems when we move from one mountain, we find ourselves on another moutain. It seems to be no break! But maybe God is just giving me just enough light for the step I’m on. (Stormie Omartain has a book with this title). I’m just praying that we can make it through to savor the goodness of our inheritance and don’t fall by the wayside.
I have been in this tough place numerous times and have found that keeping a prayer journal going each day helped me out. When we are in difficult situations we tend to shut GOD out of it but that is when we need Him the most. It is very important that we get rid of any known sin that might be in the way from us hearing and feeling Gods nearness.
Seek out godly counsel is another important way to get through tough times. Yet, we must turn to the Lord first and foremost in all things.
To: Walking Wounded, If you could watch the movie “Fireproof” it may help your marriage out. May the Lord be with you and show you what to do. God Bless
