“All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side” (2 Chronicles 15:15).
When I think of the adjective “eagerly”, I picture a five year old opening birthday presents or my teenage son at meal time.
The Bible uses that word to describe how the people searched for God. They were keenly desiring, intently and zealously seeking, vigorously and wholeheartedly looking for God.
The image stirs up questions in my mind. Do I follow God in that way?
Is pursuing God of first and utmost importance in my life?
It could be that when we fail to find God, it is not because He hides Himself but because we do not seek Him with our whole being.
In the law, Moses warned the Israelites that God would scatter them among the nations if they worshipped other gods. “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find Him if you look for Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29).
Later, Jeremiah wrote these words – a message from God – to those who lived in exile for the very reason Moses had warned. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
We have the opportunity, right now, to turn away from whatever has distracted us from following God.
Let us return to God wholeheartedly; let us seek Him eagerly; for we know that when we do, He will be found by us.
You are our Faithful God. Thank you that no matter where I have been, You have promised to be found by me when I seek You with all my heart.
Questions: Why does God ask us to seek Him wholeheartedly? What can you change in order to have the word “eagerly” describe your pursuit of God?
