“These are the words of Him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens, no one can shut; and what He shuts, no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and not denied my name”(Rev 3:7, 8, NIV).
The letter to the church in Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) describes a people who were patiently enduring the hardship they faced. They remained faithful to God but had little strength. Do you love God, but feel weak and weary? Are you following Him, but wonder how much longer you can continue under the weight of your trouble? Take heart. The message to Philadelphia is a message for you.
God knows your heart. He understands your struggle.
Though our strength is limited, God’s strength is not. He is almighty and nothing can stand against His power. What He opens, no one can shut; and what He shuts, no one can open. The trouble you face may be insurmountable for you, but it is not insurmountable for God.
The apostle Paul writes, “God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV). God has placed an open door before us that no one can shut. Ask Him for the power to walk through it.
Heavenly Father, thank you that You are always strong. I am so weak; give me the power to walk through the door you have opened for me. Help me to remain faithful to You and to never deny Your name.
Questions: How does admitting your weakness help you access God’s power? Why do we forget about God’s all-powerfulness?

What a BEAUTIFUL devotional and POWERFULLY encouraging words from The Scriptures! I needed this SO much in my own life today. I sure DO love the Lord and sure DO want to follow Him, but feel SO weak and sinful, yet Jesus KNOWS my heart and LOVES me till NO END. I just THANK God for answering my prayers to see a sign of good today, one from His Hand, that I might now how He feels about me. Thank you Suzanne. This was a wonderful reading! :)
Robin – God gives us so many wonderful touches in our lives that we seldom see until much later. I think of Paul and how much we can learn from his life. We are not told what his “thorn in the flesh” was but he continually asked for it to be removed. But God in all of His greatness told Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2Cor.12:9). Paul goes on to say, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. Whenever I think of God and His Greatness – the Maker of the moon, stars, the earth and all it holds – and yet He cares for us. I can only say, “Bless the Lord oh my soul, and forget none of His benefits”.
