“They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5).

“Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people” (Acts 6:8).

What fills up your being?

The book of Acts gives us a compelling description of Stephen. When I read it, the longing is stirred in my heart to be characterized as he was. He was full of faith; full of the Holy Spirit; full of God’s grace and full of God’s power.

Consider what these qualities would mean in a person’s life:

Full of faith – one who believes the truth God has revealed to us through Jesus Christ and His Word. Faith in God is not wishful thinking or hoping that all our personal desires will be fulfilled. It is believing that God created us, loved us, redeemed us and is in the process of transforming us.

Full of the Holy Spirit – one who is completely surrendered to the will of God, giving His Spirit total authority in her life. A life full of the Spirit is in tune with God’s desires and purposes and follows His leading rather than demanding her own way or seeking her own wants or needs.

Full of God’s grace – one who understands the great undeserved favor that God has shown her and in turn shows that grace to every person she meets. Patient and generous, she gives herself in service to others without expecting anything in return.

Full of God’s power – one who possesses great strength and ability that proceeds from God alone. Able to withstand the attacks of Satan and the world, her foundation cannot be shaken because it is rooted in Jesus Christ our Rock and our Redeemer.

Heavenly Father we want to be full of You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit. Fill us with faith. Fill us with Your grace. Fill us with Your power. Amen

Questions: What do you most want to be full of and why? How do you define faith? Grace? Being full of the Spirit? Being full of God’s power?

Thank you for today’s devotional. What do I want to be full of and why? I want to full of each . . . . is it a matter of choice? I pray for His guidance daily and that I will serve Him and do His will. That He will make me the person He wants me to be. I am a sinner and I fall short. . . but I strive to serve Him and to do His will.

My desire is to “To Be More Like Jesus”, “Make Me More Like Thee Dear Jesus”, “Oh To Be Like Thee”, “Let The Beauty of Jesus Be Seen In Me”. Those are a few songs that I often sing and are my hearts desire. I like Judy am a sinner and fall short but all I can do is go one day at a time. I also love the song “Others Lord Yes Other, Let That My Motto Be”. Thanks for the devotional. Hugs, Linda

I need some practical tips on how to do this. I have the desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit. But I can’t seem to get it. I want to be filled with patience, kindness, self-control. But every time I open my mouth with my family, yucky stuff comes out! How do you control your tongue?

Thank you for this reminder. It truly ministered to me in my need today. We need to pray this for ourselves as well as for all the men in our life–husbands, sons, fathers, brothers.

I find that the more time I spend in God’s Word, the more likely I am to live in a way that honors Him. I’m less likely to become impatient and more likely to serve my family with kindness if I’ve read my Bible that day, and if I’ve spent time praying and meditating on God’s goodness as I walk. As well, if I have confessed my selfishness to God that day, I’m more likely to turn to Him for the strength I need to put others first.
