“Do not be confirmed any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2a).
So many Christians that I’ve talked to recently are not experiencing the power of God in their lives. In different ways they share how life has become dull and grey and their days tend to ebb away with busy activity. Several have used the word “frenzied”. Oh, their faith is still intact, yet their lives lack that dynamic sense of energy and enthusiasm and purposefulness that is the birthright of God’s children.
I’ve thought and prayed about it lately because some days I feel it too. God nudged me to look again at the Holy Spirit; the Helper He gives every believer. The Holy Spirit in our lives offers us the power to be able to live above the frenzy with purpose and enthusiasm and divine energy.
Let’s look together this month as the different characteristics of the Holy Spirit. Let’s encourage one another to tap into the enabling power the Lord intended for us to live in. Let’s become a group of women more dynamic in our faith and victorious in our walk.
The role of the Holy Spirit is to transform us to become more like Jesus; to be filled with the fresh dynamic of His power, willing to undergo the changes He may ask us to make; ready to grapple with our part in spreading the Gospel with energy and purposefulness.
Paul, that dedicated world changing follower of Jesus, understood this and was led by the Holy Spirit to urge others to offer themselves to God as an act of worship. The invitation and instruction remains for you and I today.
“Do not be confirmed any longer to the pattern of this word, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).
Peter was another follower who understood the dynamic of following Jesus. He talks to those of the faith and encourages us in much the same way.
“Prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. … For you know that it was not with perishable things such a silver and gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ…” (1Peter 1: 13-18).
The first step in our journey of exploring the Holy Spirit in our lives is to allow our minds to be transformed and our hope set fully on the grace that redeemed us from an empty way of life. Join me as we remind one another that it all begins with the way we think.
Holy Father, I need You. Teach me more about Your Holy Spirit. I offer myself to You as my act of worship. Transform my mind. Help me to be self-controlled. Enable me to look beyond the distractions of this life. Show me afresh the dynamics of life filled with Your power as I grow in understanding my part in Your work. In Jesus’ powerful name I ask this, Amen.
Questions: Have you lost your sense of energy and enthusiasm and purposefulness of life? How can you return to a life of harmony with God’s plan?
About the Author Gail Rodgers
I actually am going through this sense of lost energy and enthusiasm and even purposefulness-but I have come to realize after my service on Sunday that I am just resting. Satan wants me to believe God has left me or separated from me somehow….but its a lie, for He said He would never leave us. So I realize that right now, life is good-rest is needed. He knows whats coming up and that I need rest. For God rested why shouldnt I rest. Thank you Jesus for your revelation and that there is nothing wrong with the season I’m in. I think for most of my life its busy and I said I did not want to use that word because “busy” is Being Under Satan’s Yoke and I am a child of God. May you all realize to stay focused of God and His righteousness and the rest shall be added unto you.
I love Gail Rogers devotionals, but wanted to let you know that the verse from Romans 12:2 is quoted incorrectly. Thanks.
Today’s message is very powerful. Thank you, Gail! My goal in 2011 is to help empower the women in my life.
Thanks for the article, it is true Christians are not experience the victory that need. Most of the time, it has to do with are you thinking the enemies thoughts or God’s thoughts. Are you reading the word daily. Have you confessed your sins, this subject has been avoided by alot of high profile pictures. Are you asking God to not only change you, but change your atmosphere, meaning removing things that do not magnify Christ, clothes, Tv shows, statues in your home. Are you walking in obedince, and truth, are you asking the Holy Spirit to reveal His revelation and Wisdom. As Christians we focus too much on the world, instead of focusing on not be changed by the world. And finally are you praying, until your cup is full five minutes or two hours, communicating with Christ daily.
God bless
I had typed a comment stating something like: Sunday, when we were at our “Adult Forum”, which is what they call our Bible study…pastor was teaching us from Luke. The teaching seemed to evolve around the fact that we can avoid sin, if we choose. I felt the absence of reference to the Holy Spirit, but chose to listen instead of talk. That evening I made mention to my husband that without the Holy Spirit I cannot walk the walk….and then there was teaching on the holy Spirit in our bedtime devotion.
Your teaching today, as always, is so meaningful to me…and so timely. Again, the mention of the po wer of the Holy Spirit. I so need to walk in the Spirit as my flesh wasnts to give in to fear. I am awaiting pathology results on my surgery last Thursday. I know….nothing comes to us that does not come through God’s Hand and thus, I choose to trust Him and pray He will always be glorified in my life. Others are always watching ! After my surgery, I RANDOMLY opened to Psalm 30 v 2…and KNOW GOD touched my heart with His Presence ! WOW !
Thank you , Gail and all of you there who are obedient in serving our Lord with your wonderful teachings. May He continue to bless and guide you. I pray for good health so that I can serve Him with a glad heart and would appreciate your prayers for a good outcome on the pathology report !
Thank you, Judy, for noting the errors in the scripture quote: It should read:
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV
God bless you all.
Warmly,
Gail
I could definitely use more Holy Spirit Power in my life.
