God in Nature

Please open your Bible and read Psalm 19.

Truly “the heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1) and God is revealed in our natural world: “From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.” (Romans 1:20)

It is, however, a mistake to base our beliefs on the natural world alone. Christian apologist Matthew Slick notes that “If we look at a beautiful sunrise, we decide god is ‘good’; if we look at a hurricane, we decide god is ‘cruel’” for our world has been corrupted by sin. Although God’s image which he imbued to us upon creation (Genesis 1:26) has been defaced by our sin, it can never be entirely erased. Similarly, although the world is corrupt, God’s glory continues to peek through the dark clouds, providing illumination for all who allow God’s light to shine in their hearts. (2 Corinthians 4:5-6)

After all, “Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me now.” (1 Corinthians 13:12) While we might know about God from nature, we can only know Him personally through His Son Jesus Christ and by reading His word to us in the Bible. Nevertheless, we can experience God’s real presence through His creation, and this is one of the amazing gifts that God has given us.

Question:  How can the grandeur of God’s creation help a person begin to know the God who created it?

One,,, “grandeur of Gods creation”,,, Two “The God who created it”?

When I had to evacuate for Hurricane Katrina I called a friend and requested to come stay with him at his home for a few days.
He said yes do come and bring all your family with you too, there was 8 of us.
HE had 8 kids and a wife!

I had not been to his home out of state for 10 years but did know he moved into another home not far from the other I had visited before.
He assured me he could accomodate all of us. Hmmm I thought, 18 in one house!

When I arrived in his subdivision and saw the home, I was in awe, and my cell phone rang before I entered the driveway which was my daughter following behind me and was double checking to be sure we had the correct address.
I assured her this was it, to which she proclaimed “Dad”,, it’s a “mansion”! To which I proclaimed, yea I can see that!

We all arrived and was warmly greeted. We were given a brief tour and explanations of many of the locations of objects in the home.

We sat to have coffee and breakfast and I got the details of the house.
It was 8000 square feet, 3 story, with 1 giant master bedroom, 7 extra bedrooms all with Jaquzzi Tubs, a entertainment room with computers, internet, pool tables, giant screen tv, video games, 2nd floor balconey overlooking the swimming pool, 4 car garage, 3 acre pond with a Gazebo in the middle and a bridge to cross over on, a 2000 sq ft swimming pool with diving board, washers and dryers on floors 1 & 2, and in the garage too, all sitting on 10 acres of pristine manicured lawns, shrubrey and gardens, with 2 four wheelers and 1 dirt bike to cruise around the yard!

The “grandeur” of the home exhibited Spectacular details, Adorned and embellished with Impressive and Astonishing Beauty that revealed the unnoticable elements of a intelligent creator.

As I sat at the 12 person dining room table, trying to stay informed from radio and TV on the latest news concerning Hurricane Katrina and the disasters unfolding back home, my eyes were gazing thru one of the 6 huge 10ft x 10ft windows on the back of the house overlooking the pool and the back yard, with the huge pond and the romantic gazebo, when suddenly my mind within me spoke and said,,,, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
There I sat,,, uncertain of my earthly destiny, Yet surrounded by the “grandeur” of a human creators work, calmed and sedated by the lavished comforts of human designs.

Today I am back home, from Katrina, with minimal issues from it’s passing.

Two nights ago I put out the garbage to the curb late at night, I noticed it was so quiet and noiseless outside, the sky was crystal clear and the stars were sparkling when I lifted my head and looked at the “grandeur of the creation” hanging above me,,, and while staring above I declared openly to God,,,”where are you”,,,, what are you up to? and simply smiled and went back inside.

We are told that the “heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows forth His handiwork.
Yes,,,, the universe and all we see are Gods “easel”, a work of unfathomable grandeur!

And when I stare into a mirror,,,, there I see the greatest of all the grandeur’s of Gods handiwork, “me”, the image and likeness of my creator.
I am deeply humbled by an overwhelming presence of His devoted love and that in spite of the endless work needed to maintain His universe, God made a way, working in a way that I could not see until I met the Master and I heard His voice, the Good Shepherd calling me to enter into the narrow gate and come home, and one day I will go home, home to the grandeur of His mansion and the one He has prepared for me.

Who is this God? There is none like you. No one else can touch my heart like you do. I could search for all eternity long and would not find one like You!

I hope these thoughts inspire you to aspire before you expire!

    Best of blessings to all!

God has asked me to meet him in nature and has showed me the place. During my first visit he directed me to a small tree where he showed himself in everything. I walked up a mountain side without labor nor did I sweat (it was 98 degrees out). The second day that I arrived, I notice something large sitting under the tree, I thought it might be a cayote. When I got within 100 feet or so I became aware that it was an enormous eagle, just waiting to greet me. In my troubled times God has reached out to remind me of his almighty Glory and that he is here to truly lift me up. I signed up for your devotional yesterday and the first one is about God in nature. Much to share, Thanks and God Bless you!

Thank you , Ted and Toni, for those inspirational description of your experiences. To that I want to add my own: We used to live in a large city in western Canada, where there was a park in which I found my “prayer closet”, a spot from which no city street lights were visible. One evening after praying for a good half hour and knowing that God was there with me, I asked Him to verify that He’d actually heard me. It was a very dark cloudy night, and I suddenly had the feeling that I should look to the right, upon which the heavy storm clouds pulled away from a small opening through which the moon shone down on me! In about 7 seconds the clouds again covered the moon from my sight. Wow, what an exposure! The whole world is there to do His bidding. About 5 weeks latter, when I again had concluded a great prayer time, I asked the same question: God, give me another sign that You are here; upon which I heard a coyote howl. I had not heard a coyote in 8 months, but there he was doing God’s work to assure me that He is in control. What an awesome God we serve!
