With Jesus Into The New Year

Written by Helen Grace Lescheid

Are you facing a family crises? Let us walk this path together. We want to help.

The disciples were terrified. It was about 3 a.m. and pitch dark. They were in a small boat on the Sea of Galilee. The boat was being beaten and tossed by a strong wind. Suddenly they saw an apparition coming towards them. “It’s a ghost!” they said and cried out in fear.

But Jesus, walking on the water, called out to them, “Take courage! I Am. Don’t be afraid.” He climbed into the boat and immediately the wind ceased. Soon they reached their destination. (John 6:16-21 Amplified Bible; also Exodus 3:14))

What challenges are you facing as you enter a new year? Are you in the midst of a storm? Maybe it’s a family crisis. Financial insecurity. Sickness. Loneliness.

See Jesus walking towards you on the waves and calling out to you, “Take courage! I Am. Don’t be afraid.”

I Am the beginning of all things, the end of all things and in the midst of all things.

I was present at your birth; I will be there at the end of your years and through all the days in between.

I Am ever present. I Am not only the God of your past and your future,

But I Am also the God of your present moments.

All that I have been and will be, I Am to you now. You do not have to look at the coming year

and wonder how you will get through it physically, emotionally, mentally, financially or spiritually.

I Am your life, your health, your strength and your supply.

I Am your source, your confidence, your victory!                                                              Author Unknown

Father, the very waves that threatened the disciples, Jesus walked on. Thank you that Jesus is ever present and sufficient to make me a conqueror. Amen.

Questions: Are you wondering whether you will be able to get through this coming year physically, emotionally, mentally, financially or spiritually? What would be your first step to help you to continue on with confidence?

helen, thank you for the devotional today. you ask what challenges might be coming for ’09? that was easy for me; quit smoking and eat healthier. both have been an issue for me for a long time(well before I found the Lord Jesus in my life). around nov. of ’08, i sought the guidance of my doctor. he said in order to accomplish both issues I needed to feel it here(and he pointed his finger to his head). I went in today, 2 months later, told him why I was there-to address at least the smoking issue. he said, ”so you’re ready mentally?” I said ”no, I’m ready here(and I pointed to my heart). then I assured him that i wasn’t talking about my physical heart, i was talking about God.
you could say that I’m in the midst of a storm but indirectly. but involved I am. siblings are facing trials left, right and center and here I am standing strong. the power of His love is what drives me.
I am not afraid—-but comforted. I don’t look at tomorrow as tomorrow is not here yet and yesterday is—-yesterday.
    physically?- blessed with good health
    mentally?-blessed with sound doctrine
    emotionally?-grateful, oh so grateful, humbled
spiritually?-hungry all the time, awake or asleep
financially?-blessed as my cup runs over
my confidence will continue with one foot going forward and the other following in unison.
