Redirect

Written by John Grant

Are you confused and not sure what to do or where to turn? Ask one of our mentors to help you.

God is aware of and concerned with every aspect of our being …physical, mental, emotional financial, and perhaps most important of all spiritual. God wants us to be spiritually fit and the best way to do that is to walk with Him and with His Word as we travel over the hills and valleys of life.

The problem, though, for most of us is that we get diverted by more worldly things and lose sight of the presence of God in our lives. I recently went to a website to look up some information. When I pressed a certain icon, a dialogue box popped up to tell me I was being “redirected” to another website.

I thought about the spiritual application of that and realized that when the matters of the world cloud my spiritual vision, I need to redirect my thoughts to focus on what God is telling me in each situation I face in life. For example:

  • When I feel all alone, I should redirect myself to Hebrews 13:5 “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
  • When I am fearful, I should redirect myself to Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”
  • When I feel weak, I should redirect myself to Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
  • When I am torn between following the ways of the world of the ways of the Lord, I should redirect myself to Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
  • When I feel lost, I should redirect myself to Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For, everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
  • When I feel inadequate in knowing God’s will for my life, I need to redirect myself to Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart.”
  • When I am tempted by the world, I should redirect myself to 1 Peter 5:8 “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

Father God, Your Holy Word is truly the roadmap for life. Throughout the days ahead please help me to make a conscious effort, in every situation, to redirect myself to Your Word and find the strength and power to walk as You would walk. Amen.

Questions: Do you find yourself in a situation where you just don’t know what to do next?  Are you getting side tracked away from God’s Word?

Amen, wow. I find myself in that place right now, actually. As we get older, it is harder to find your friends, and all the comforts of what has become long ago, and it challenges you to turn to God. Even now, I am reminded to turn to God, & just trust Him to my be company, and the best company that I could ever have. I’m beginning my teaching assignment tomorrow, if you happen to remember me for a moment that’d be wonderful! God bless you, & thank you Mr. Grant!

First I want to say that I am adding on to my name because we already have a “denise” here. Hi denise! I usually don’t run into anyone with that name. Hopefully I won’t confuse anyone when I post and they think…, it this the other denise and wonder…, “why would she say that?” lol

    I loved this devotional.

I love Hebrews 13:5 “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This has carried me through life. When I feel so alone, so abandoned, Jesus whispers this verse to me to remind me that He will never leave me.

Oh and Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” that one I had to memorize because there are so many times in my life that I just don’t understand why. But if I keep my trust in the Lord I can rest assured that He will keep me safe.

God has so many wonderful things he wants to share with us in His word.

Thank you for reminding us Mr. Grant.

thank you John for this timely devotional. i’ll have to say that this one hit home. i have found myself as of late anxious, some what sequestered (but of my own volition) from fellowship more so than anything. i believe i saw in another devotional here(which I have yet to remark on) the word back-sliding. that’s been me. but the one thing I am not doing is staying away from His Word. what a difference a day and prayers heard make.
i ‘was’ feeling inadequate, trying to understand when I know I can’t; I ‘was’ very un-easy within and didn’t know why. I ‘was’ feeling guilty about my inadequacy in prayer. the key thing here is the past-tenses. I am blessed in that I am back on the right track and my shoulders no longer feel the burden of of self-affliction. in reading Scripture this morning, I came to James 4:14 which says, ”whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” when I read that I saw things in a different perspective. Praise the Lord that He is Strong and I am weak.
