“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
What does it mean to be crucified with Christ and live by faith?
It is all about surrender.
As believers, we desire to live for Jesus. Yet experience teaches that no matter how hard we try, we continually fall short of the life to which God calls us.
You see, living a life of faith is not dependent on how much we do but rather on how much we allow Christ to do in and through us. Therefore, the essential ingredient in a life lived for Jesus is surrender.
I think of surrender as a deliberate relinquishment of control to God. It is the laying down of my own agenda and choosing to let Him rule my life.
Problems arise when, forgetting my yielding of control over to God, I try to run my own life again.
Thus, I am convinced that surrendering to God needs to be a daily discipline.
Each morning, my day needs to be given to Almighty God.
Moment by moment, my thoughts and emotions need to be submitted to the Holy One.
Every evening, the cares and worries of the day need to be relinquished to the Maker of the universe.
Then, day by day, little by little, I will begin to truly understand what it means to surrender to God.
God, Most High, help me, show me, teach me, how to surrender my life to You, that You may transform it.

to live a life of surrender to Christ on a daily basis is a really hard task. it is really easy to give up habits and behaviours but total surrender requires giving up what we now know as our personality and takuing on the personality of Christ thats where the hard part comes in. sometimes this means surrendering the pride and personal security that makes us who we are.this is a challenge especially for women because we express our selves with reference to our emotions but total surrender means even being willing to forgo what we are feeling inside for what god says you should be feeling at a given time.although this is hard it is awesome because as women the devil tends to mess alot with our emotions. Can you imagine the power we will regain if the enemy has no control at all over how we feel.
Yes I agree w/ Kerri It is very hard to surrender the emotions for what God would have you do. So many people don’t even want to try I was there and my emotion took me on roller coaster rides you would not belive, until someone I thought cared for me hurt me so deeply that I had to realize that, someone else had to much authority over my emotions and that could not be. I began to seek God and many scriptures helped me through. I find myself taking situation differntly now know that God is with me all the time and He can guide my footstep. I can bring my thought to the captivity of Jesus and all that man it is so liberating!
this gave me a lot to think about
I think we sometimes ‘surrender’ to God only after we have tried everything else, hit bottom, and feel defeated! We want what we want, and uncertain that God will reward us accordingly, we set out to gratify our desires until we need His divine rescue. What a challenge it is to ‘surrender’ to God BEFORE one experiences mayhem or conflict, to commit to Him the outcome of our obedience, trusting Him to “work for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) Great devotion, Suzanne!
i really enjoyed these comments.. i feel am not alone in the feelings and emotions sode of surrendering totally to Amighty God why we fear this is beyond me.. its been the biggest step i have ever taken and am positive i will not be dissapointed.. it took me to come to the end of my rope befor i have surrendered all.. i made so many messes trying to open doors that only God can , trying to do things only God can do only to leave me feeling empty and frustrated and at worst hurting myself emotionally.. but after doing soHis peace that only The Lord cna give has filled my heart i dont know what my tomorrom will bring but in His hands i am safe and have hope
Kerri, I’m not certain that we are to give up our ‘personality’ so much as to give up our will to do things ‘our way’ instead of His way. Our unique personalities are used by the Lord to accomplish many purposes He has planned for us, each of us with strengths and weaknesses that can be used for His kingdom agenda and for His glory! The fruits of the Spirit are what we should be developing, and if these traits completely transform our ‘personalities,’ then this is His will for us. Becoming more Christ-like should make each of our personalities more ‘fruitful.’ God bless!
much to digest. thank you Suzanne
