Jesus Christ didn’t promise His followers freedom from trials. But He did promise help, peace, and guidance to those who believe and appropriate God’s Word. He promised to send the Comforter to His disciples after He departed for heaven. And the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, is present in the hearts of all those who have received Jesus Christ as Savior. The Holy Spirit can imbue us with the power to overcome all things.
Jesus said the Holy Spirit would come not only to comfort His followers, but also to
teach and guide them. So He often can lead us as to what to do. So how can we have God’s comfort, peace, and guidance through difficult situations?
1. If we have never truly received Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we can bow our heads in repentance right now and receive Him. The Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts when we do that. And through the Spirit, God the Father and God the Son also indwell us. See (John 14:17,18,2).
2. If we already know Him, we can get back into a right relationship with Him. We can seek His forgiveness for indifference and wrongdoing, and then recommit our lives to Him so that the Holy Spirit can help, comfort, and guide us.
3. If we are right with the Lord, we can claim promises such as these:
“In me you may have peace,” Jesus said. (John 16:33, NIV) We can have that by trusting Him.
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” (John 16:24, NIV).
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him” (Psalm 37:4-5,7, NIV).
Christ can use our serenity and faith during times of trouble as a supernatural testimony to His salvation, power, and grace. If you are facing a trial and would like someone to talk to and pray with, you can contact a mentor using this form.
Questions: How can we have God’s comfort, peace, and guidance through difficult situations? If our relationship with God has been broken, how can it be restored?

Have you ever heard the comment “Anything that shakes you is a God to you?”
What do you think? Your devotion blessed me today. Thanks for your help.

I know the Lord provided for us our every need. I thank God that He loves us unworthy sinners. I need to remind myself often that needs and wants are very different. Thank you for this devotional.
I have really been struggling in my life when it comes to getting close to the Lord again. I know that he loves me. Can you please pray for me to be forgiven for anything I have said or done. I am hurting and when you feel that way sometimes your attitude isn’t always where it should be. I know I need a lot of improvement with things. I get a lot of negative stuff sometimes at me and I kinda get caught up in it. I know that’s wrong but it’s really hard. I need better self control. I hope that God will forgive me. I’ve just been so blue for so long. I feel useless and hopless most days. I am very insecure, I will admit. I know I fight against those unseen powers but it seems to get the best of me. That’s all I have to say right now. I’m just asking that you will pray for me to get closer to the Lord and that I will start to feel more of His presence….God Bless and Thank You for your time.
Jad,
I know what you mean. I wanted to share something that someone I met here told me. She said that if I met Jesus today He would not remember any of my sins.
I really love that truth and hold on to it. I hope it helps you too.
Dear Jad–Our Lord is gracious, and gave us this Scripture to apply every time we muff up: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Please believe and do this, Jad, and you will receive God’s peace that passes all understanding. (See Philippians 4:6-7). None of us are perfect, and our Lord does want us to be close to Him. He loves us–He is patient with us. Just allow Him to forgive you and draw you back to Himself!
In His love, Dr. Muriel
