Soul Cravings: Seeking

Usually people talk about “seeking God.” But is it possible that God has been actively seeking you for a long time, possibly even a lifetime? God is not trying to avoid us. In fact we often try to avoid God. He is already knocking at your door: Will you let Him into your life?

In this video author Erwin McManus explores some of the ideas found in his book, Soul Cravings. Here he concludes his series of talks by explaining why God chose to step into human history: To better seek after us.

We encourage you to watch, and explore our Soul Cravings website if you’re interested in learning more.

Can you identify with how you’ve been fleeing God ? Have you ever considered that God has been seeking you, and longing to begin a new relationship? I have been unemployed for the past five months.
When I first lost my job I surrendered to God the storm. In the the months that have followed I have used my faith to guide through the storm.
My unemployment benefits were denied and we live on a fixed income. God has provide our needs throughout this storm. God has shown us some light, but I know he still has a purpose for all of this. My faith and walk with God has grown deeper, stronger.

Hey Bradley, thanks for posting. What kind of things has God been doing in your life that show his provision?

I am a Mennonite christian, have been all my life, just never really understood how much God pursues each one of us. I am only slowly beginning to realize after many hard knocks; God is the only one who can truly satisfy the inner need of every heart. This you tube message spoke the cry within me, and I just wanted to be an inspiration. Pray for me as I still deal with resentment towards all the elders I looked up to who were never able to help me in this, but rather gave me a set of practices to follow as my write of passage. God Bless

Am just like Nathanael, been a staunch Christian beliver all my life, followed all the rules and did all the right things, while inside I was sinking in self-hate and the “not good enough to God” feeling and the low self-esteem took its toll on me during my teens and more so in my adulthood, even to this day I’m struggling with that, I just can’t help not to find anything that makes me feel less than others and I always admire others and don’t really think that there is anybody who admires to be like me or to be me for that matter and if they do it’s because they have no idea of how messed up i am. I hate church and it’s “rigid” rules and regulations. All I want to do is to know and experience this loving God, but where do I begin and how do i reach Him, He seems to be so far above in heaven. These days I don’t pray internationally and I talk to Him and am at peace with that, but my struggle is to hear Him talk back to me. Any advise is welcome.

  • Nathanael & Lizie, thank you for bravely sharing a little about your journey with us and with others.

If you’d like to talk privately via email with one of our mentors, please check out this page … http://powertochange.com/discover/talk-to-a-mentor/ … it’s confidential and you will be matched with someone who’s familiar with your struggles.

One other thought, a book you might want to try is “The Ragamuffin Gospel” by Brennan Manning, or one of his other books on similar themes. I think it would be helpful and consoling for you.

Thank yoy Darren for your response, it’s people like you who make the purusing of God and His righteousness worth it. Thank you for you kindness and understanding, we need more people like you in this world who’ll bring the love of God to the many broken hearts.

    May God richly bless you.

Congrats brother Bradley! Those who have experienced these shortcomings are drawn to a special relationship to the Lord. 15 years ago I had something like this, but I confess I used Jesus as a spare tire (see the video) once I thought I could walk my own way (separated from Him). This site is nurturing my broken relationship with Him and the brotherhood I should keep connected to.
LIZIE: I feel somethings like you. I just want to HEAR Him and I´m realizing He really speaks (the way He wants and by people´s testimonies and posts like these). I recommend you to read a book named: “Experiencing God” Written by Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King (Broadman & Holman publishers). This has served me to begin to understand part of the thing and God is using Bradley´s condition to HELP him draw near in a deeper relationship to His Lordship. Be Brave brother Brad! I know what this is ad I had forgotten that lesson He gave me.
