The ancient Greeks certainly had a penchant for striving towards excellence. Growing up, Pete Brisco knew exactly what he wanted to be when he grew up: he wanted to be The Best. No matter what the situation is, he wanted to excel and be the best at it. Even as an adult, he dedicated countless hours, including nights and weekends, to excel at what he does. Driven to the point of exhaustion, he came to a very important realization: emptiness happens when you are continually striving to get to that place of excellence and don’t quite reach it.
Sometimes we rush to get to the pedestal, to be esteemed and recognized, that we neglect the beautiful journey through the race. There is nothing wrong with striving to be better. Excelling at something is not a bad goal. However, what would it take to realize that you have somehow missed the mark?
