Lisa's Spiritual Journey
Searching for Satisfaction
>In high school I was curious about things my friends did, things like drinking, smoking, dating guys, swearing. I would lie to my parents about some of the things I did because I didn’t think they would approve. For awhile it was fun to be included in these things; it was exciting and daring.
I began to see that I was getting myself into some potentially dangerous situations and recognized that I didn’t want my life to continue going the direction I was going. Ultimately, I wasn’t satisfied.
>When I was challenged to consider the possibility that God might want me to be a missionary full time, I was deeply convicted that I had been a Christian for a large part of my life, but I had not really given God full control of my life.
>I remembered back to when I was a little girl and had accepted Jesus into my life. What did that mean now? I definitely understood that I had made some wrong choices, things against God, but I also knew that God loved me and wanted me to experience complete forgiveness and He wanted to give me an incredible new and satisfying life.
I understood that someone had to pay for my wrong choices, either I could pay or I could accept Jesus’ payment for my wrong choices and that was the only way I could know for sure I was completely forgiven and then I could begin living the most satisfying and truly exciting life. So it was at that time that I fully committed my life to God.
>God has helped me to start making right choices and to see the value of thinking about life with a long-term perspective.
Instead of just wanting what seems satisfying right now, I’ve begun to realize that some things that seem satisfying right now are not satisfying in the long run. Now, I ask God to help me make choices that I will not regret later in life.
>Every person should consider the possibility that God exists and that through Jesus Christ alone, we as human beings created by God, can have a personal relationship with our Creator.
We need to seriously consider these claims because if it is true that Jesus is the only way to know God as he claimed to be, then our response, whether to accept it as true or not, could have serious consequences.
>God knows us better than we know ourselves and despite knowing that we make choices that aren’t right and are hurtful to both Him and ourselves, He still loves us and desires for us to have a relationship with Him.
He knows that the most satisfying relationship you will ever have is a relationship with himself. He is the best thing we can ever experience in life!
