Super Bowl XLVI is this weekend. Come Monday morning we’ll all be discussing the commercials as much as the outcome of the game. I hope there are some good ones. Doritos is running their Crash the Super Bowl ad competition again. Out of 4 000 entries, the six finalists have been selected and they’re pretty funny. Viewers can vote for their favorite ad at crashthesuperbowl.com . The top three will be aired during the game with the winner taking home a million dollars.
Of the six finalists still in the competition this one is my favorite:
I was surprised to learn that this ad was submitted by a large church in California. Despite what you might think, the creators claim there’s no hidden message. In an article for USA Today, Mosaic’s head pastor Erwin McManus said:
“We’re not trying to use Doritos to propagate a message, but I think we want people to know that we have a sense of humor, that it’s OK to laugh. So much of what comes out of the faith community seems so dour and somber and we want to say, ‘Hey, we’re real people. You can be a person of faith and really enjoy life and laugh.”
The six finalists have already won $25 000 each and a trip to the Super Bowl. To find out who takes that prize home, you’ll have to watch the game. I wonder if this means churches will start providing snacks for Sunday services? You can see all six finalists on crashthesuperbowl.com Which one gets your vote?
