Do you ever watch those home reno shows on TV where they take someone’s horrible basement and turn it into a gorgeous lounge or an inspiring art studio? Have you noticed that the first step is always clearing everything out of the basement? There’s usually a shot of the family out on their front lawn surrounded by belongings. Some one turns to camera and says “I had no idea we had all this stuff!”
All too often the same can be said of our lives. Everyone is busy, everyone is tired and it’s not because we’re not as hardy as we used to be. The vast majority of us have a lot going on. If your life is feeling like that cluttered basement, this can be a great time of year to do a little personal reno.
In her article, “Spring Clean Your Life” author Leelo-Dianne Bush writes, “The number one stresser these days is that life is too fast-paced. It can be difficult if not impossible to keep up with all the demands. “
If you feel like your life is a little crazy, you are not alone. Write down a list of your current commitments and start seeing what you can you remove, delegate or re-schedule for another season in your life. Who knows what blissful extra time might be hiding in your cluttered life? When you’re ready to get started, Leelo-Dianne Bush has five easy ways to simplify your life.

It’s true… I am a working mum with for children and you simply can not do everything you ‘should’ do. So I decided a while a go to be less ‘perfect’ and more forgiving for myself. And that helps! And ever since I took that decision, life had been giving me a break! Isn’t that awesome!
Blessings to all
Linda
Hi Linda: Also I think what drains us of energy is also clutter in the home, and the constant buying of “stuff” (guilty as charged, that’s me). You’re also right in saying we have to decide to lower our expectations of ourselves and decide not to be too pefect, as you said, and give ourselves that BREAK! Thanks for sharing, it’s freeing to not be too perfect when we decide not to be.
Blessings:
Joy
Joy and Linda, my who life is cluttered at the moment. A neighbour with muscles was helping me last night and commented on the clutter everywhere in my home. He wasn’t being rude, just kind of shocked as he’s a neat freak. I’m so busy working f/t and running a business almost f/t that I just let things that can wait ‘go’. I told myself that I can’t do it all and perfection in all areas is not possible. However, I’ve swung the pendulum too far and paying the price so a little more perfectionism is returning to my life.
Also, as the article states… what can I delegate. I don’t have children or a spouse to help so what to do? I have a neighbour who offered to help but do you let someone see what mess you’ve created?? Finally I decided to call on his help to use his muscles and in exchange I’ve given him something he enjoys – you see, I’m trained in massage but don’t do it professionally any longer so I’ve given him a really good massage and he said that he’d love more of them. He’s very active in sports. It’s a great barter system we have going and I’m feeling that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. In some areas, like my business, I must be a perfectionist and in my homelife, well I guess a little more perfect is needed but not too much. LOL There has to be a fine line somewhere.
Blessings
